How to convert 720x480 downloads to 720x486 (Media 100 and Avid systems) in After Effects.
- Start After Effects®
- File > Import > File...
- Navigate to directory of the clip, select the .mov clip, and click "Open"
- Highlight the imported clip in the Project window
- File > Interpret Footage > Main...
- Frame Rate: "Use frame rate from file: (29.97fps)"
- Fields and Pulldown: Separate Fields: "Lower Field First"
- Check "Motion Detect (Best quality only)"
- Remove Pulldown: Off
- Other Options - Pixel Aspect Ratio: "D1/DV NTSC"
- Click "OK" to define nature of imported DV clip and to separate its fields
- Composition > New Composition...
- Preset: "NTSC DV, 720x480"
- Frame Rate: 29.97
- Resolution: Full
- Enter the clip's duration in the Duration field
- Click "OK"
- Drag-and-Drop the clip from the Project window to the Composition timeline
- Window > Render Queue
- Drag-and-Drop the "Comp 1" from Project window to the Render Queue window
- Render Settings: Select "Custom..."
- Quality: Best
- Resolution: Full
- Proxy Use: "Use No Proxies"
- Effects: "All Off"
- Frame Blending: "Off For All Layers"
- Field Render: "None"
- 3:2 Pulldown: Off
- Motion blur: "Off For All Layers"
- Time span: "Length of Comp"
- Frame rate: "Use comp's frame rate (29.97)"
- Click "OK"
- Output Module: Select "Custom..."
- Format: Select "QuickTime® Movie"
- Embed: None
- Check "Video Output"
- Click "Format Options..."
- Compressor: None
- Color: "Millions of Colors"
- Quality: Best
- Motion: "Frames per second: 29.97"
- Click "OK
- Channels: RGB
- Depth: "Millions of Colors"
- Color: "Premultiplied (Matted)"
- Check Stretch - ONLY IF YOUR NLE's FRAME-SIZE IS NOT 720x480
- Stretch Quality to High
- Select: NTSC D1, 720x486 - IF YOUR NLE's FRAME-SIZE IS 720x486
- Select: NTSC 640x480 - IF YOUR NLE's FRAME-SIZE IS 640x480
- Click "OK" to close Output Module dialog box and return to Render Queue
- Output To: Click on "Not yet specified"
- Specify where to save the composition, specify filename, and click "Save"
- Click "Render" to start the rendering process and wait until finished
- Close Render window
- You can now import the uncompressed .mov clip
